At just 23 years old, Laura Jean Binkley is already establishing a solid fan base in the thriving mid-Missouri music scene. Since her first CD release, State of Mind, in the fall of 2004, she has captivated crowds with her passionate vocals and original songs. Laura Jean has a voice that seamlessly transitions from soft to powerful and, in true folkrock form, plays along wonderfully on her acoustic guitar.
Hailing from Brookings, South Dakota, Laura Jean Binkley came to Columbia, Missouri, to attend the University of Missouri. She focused her academic energies on attaining an English degree with an emphasis on creative writing and graduated in May 2006.
Laura Jean has been surrounded by music her whole life. Laura's mother taught her to play guitar at a young age, and she began writing songs as a senior in high school. While attending the University of Minnesota, she joined the Acoustic Showcase and began playing in coffeehouses and bars in Minneapolis.
Influenced by Jewel and Ani Difranco and compared to the likes of Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell, Laura has developed her own unique and fresh sound, much to the delight of new and old fans. With dozens of new songs, Laura Jean Binkley is planning to release a second CD before graduating college. She is a treat to see live and will certainly continue to attract larger crowds and venues in and around mid-Missouri.
